HEY, IT'S EMILY

Maggie & Bob’s Door Creek Wedding

The way we came to photograph this wedding was such a fun story. We’re a part of a fantastic community of professional photographers who, from time to time, get recommendations for photographers who are still open on certain dates. Well I responded to such an inquiry for the date of August 26th. A bride was looking for a photographer. It was one of our rare open Saturdays this year, so we threw our name into the “we’re available” hat, and soon forgot about it. A small while later, we received an inquiry from Maggie!! We chatted with her the usual way we do all of our inquiries, only to realize a few emails in that she was engaged to BOB!

You see, John knew Bob in college! He had seen the good news on Facebook that Bob was getting married, and he even showed me the proposal pictures (he was that happy for him). 🙂 What would you know?! This was the Maggie that was marrying Bob! Once we figured that out, we were even MORE excited for these two. They’re two of the absolute sweetest people you may ever meet … in your whole life! We were honored, thrilled, and thankful for the opportunity to document their marriage day!

Maggie & Bob are two people and two personalities that people aren’t likely to forget. Encouraging, enthusiastic, and energizing, they are people who pour out their lives for others. They serve. They love. They give. Bob is a pastor, and Maggie works with children with Autism. They are filled up by what they give to others. Their wedding day was a joyous occasion because everyone around them was so thrilled to see them both so happy. We started the day at Door Creek Church in Madison, where they prepared for the big day. Maggie was calm and steady and as beautiful as could be. Bob was one big smile all morning long.

Once it was time for the ceremony, the happy tears were let loose. Bob cried, the wedding party cried, parents cried, I cried… 😉 Maggie managed to keep it all together. Through the most meaningful and heartfelt vows, they made their promises to each other. Then, with prerecorded videos, they gave the most amazing tributes to their parents, thanking them for their influence and love through the years. Yet, while so much of the ceremony was intimate and emotional, Bob & Maggie saved the best for last. Bob recorded a video which they showed before their first kiss as husband and wife. In it, his “younger self” gave his current self a pep talk on how to make this first kiss as a married couple count! They had the entire church moved from tears to outbursts of laughter, and with the slow clap… X … X … X they got pumped up for that first kiss. And made it count! 😉 (I wish I could play the video for you. It was beyond hilarious.)

Then the smiles couldn’t be contained. We headed to Olin Park for some wedding party photos, and the overcast skies let us take photos anywhere we wished! There was no thought of shadow or harsh light, which was definitely nice! With a few more stops at the Capitol, Allen Centennial Gardens, and Camp Randall, we made our way to The Heights Event Center for the rest of the evening. I feel like I say this often, but it’s really true: John and I are so grateful for the job we are able to do. We leave every wedding feeling thankful to have been a part of our clients’ wedding. It was the same with Bob & Maggie’s wedding, only a little more than normal since John knew Bob previously. It was such a joy and honor to not only document their day, but to walk alongside them, celebrating with them all the way.

To Bob & Maggie & a lifetime of happy tears and huge smiles~ Enjoy these favorites.
